DA-PCC conducts blended approach for Milkybun Production Training

The DA-Philippine Carabao Center (DA-PCC), through the Product Development and Innovation Section (PDIS) and KMD’s Learning Events Coordination Section (LECS), is currently conducting a virtual learning activity on Milkybun Production Training to pre-identified cooperatives by island clusters in coordination with the DA-PCC regional centers.

Skills enhancement for farmers goes digital

The Department of Agriculture-Philippine Carabao Center (DA-PCC) lends tablet PCs to 20 select dairy farmers in Nueva Ecija. At any given time, the gadget will be used by farmers to access the learning modules on dairy buffalo production and management developed by the DA-PCC.

Farmers’ dairy co-op in South Cotabato launches own dairy store

The Sto. Niño Dairy Farmers Association (SANDAFA), a registered group of dairy buffalo raisers in Sto. Niño, South Cotabato, officially engaged in dairy entrepreneurship on February 28 by putting up the first ever dairy store in Region XII to market various carabao’s milk-based products of the cooperative and other smallholder farmers in nearby areas.

“Our venture in dairying has not been easy; we encountered obstacles since we started in 2013. But our commitment to this business is now paying off with the milk that we are able to collect from the buffaloes and the income that we derive from the sales. During our initial years, I and my fellow carabao raisers were having a hard time managing the dairy buffaloes but with the consistent support provided to us by PCC at University of Southern Mindanao (PCC@USM) and with the assistance of the Local Government Unit (LGU), we are now profitably benefitting from this undertaking,” Yolanda Paches, a dairy farmer and a SOA-DBP graduate, said.

The prevalence of surra is existent both in institutional, small hold farms in Ubay, study says

The prevalence of surra was 25% at the farm level and 16% at the animal level, which clearly states that Trypanosoma evansi infection, also known as surra, is present not only in the institutional farms but also in small hold farms of Ubay, Bohol. This is the first time that an animal from outside a commercial farm in the province was detected to be infected with the blood parasite.
