Ayon sa isang graduate ng SOA-DBP: ‘Matalik na kaibigan ang turing namin sa kalabaw’ Jan 2020 CaraBalitaan SOA-DBP,Matalik na kaibigan,Kalabaw By Rodolfo Jr. Valdez “Kung may kasabihang ‘Dogs are man’s best friend’, para naman sa aming mga maggagatas ang kalabaw ang itinuturing naming kaagapay sa buhay.” Ayon sa isang graduate ng SOA-DBP: ‘Matalik na kaibigan ang turing namin sa kalabaw’ Ayon ito kay Arci Arceo, isang magsasaka na nagtapos sa School-on-the-Air on Dairy Buffalo Production (SOA-DBP) noong nakaraang Pebrero 26 sa bayan ng Surallah, South Cotabato. Ang SOA-DBP ay isang platapormang inilunsad ng DA-PCC sa pakikipag-ugnayan sa iba’t ibang ahensiya ng gobyerno na layuning mapahusay ang kaalaman at kakayahan ng mga magkakalabaw sa pamamagitan ng mga serye ng talakayan tungkol sa wastong teknolohiyang may kinalaman sa pag-aalaga ng kalabaw na mapakikinggan sa radyo. Ito rin ay isang uri ng pagsasanay na natukoy sa pag-aaral ng PCC Knowledge Management Division na pinamagatang “Strengthening Carabao Development Program (CDP) Communication for Development (ComDev) Campaign in Visayas and Mindanao” bilang tugon sa pangangailangan ng mga magsasaka ukol sa kaalaman sa pag-aalaga ng gatasang kalabaw. Sa mensahe ni PCC at University of Southern Mindanao (PCC@USM) Center Director Benjamin John C. Basilio, binigyang-diin niya na ang matagumpay na pagtatapos ng mahigit 400 na magsasakang enrollees ay dahil sa suporta at tulong ng mga stakeholders tulad ng Agricultural Training Institute XII, Department of Trade and Industry XII, Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation, South Cotabato Provincial Veterinary Office, Municipal Agriculture Offices ng bayan ng Norala, Surallah, Tantangan, Sto. Niño, Banga, Lake Sebu, Tupi, at T’boli. Naging bahagi ng mass graduation ang pamamahagi ng mga kagamitang pansaka gaya ng pala, bolo, tali, trapal, at drum. Bukod pa rito, naging tampok din sa pagtatapos ng enrollees ang talakayan o pagbibigay ng mga katanungan ng mga graduates. Isa sa mga katanungan sa talakayan ay kung “ano nga ba ang naging epekto ng paggagatas sa bawa’t buhay ng mga miyembro ng Canahay Dairy farmers Assocciation (CADAFA)?” Ganito naman ang naging sagot ni Yolanda Paches, isa sa mga miyembro ng CADAFA, na inaasistehan ng PCC@USM: “Naging mahirap ang simula ng aming paglalakbay sa negosyong paggagatas dahil maraming naging balakid nang kami ay magsimula noong 2013. Nguni’t lahat ng paghihirap namin noon ay nagbunga ng masaganang ani at mataas na kita dahil sa gatas ng kalabaw. Dati-rati ay nahihirapan kami sa pag-aalaga ng gatasang kalabaw, nguni’t dahil sa walang sawang suporta ng PCC@USM at ng aming LGU ay nakakamtan na namin ang bunga ng aming tagumpay.” Ilan sa mga paksang tinalakay sa SOA-DBP mula Oktubre 2019 hanggang Pebrero 2020 ay ang Feeding Management, Feeding Production and Establishment, Forage and Feed Resources for Dairy Buffaloes, Health Management, Animal Management, Disease Prevention and Control; Breeding Management, Carabao Enterprise; at Technology Adaptation.
