DA-RFO2, ATI-RTC 02, DA-PCC prep Cagayanos youth for AI

The DA-Philippine Carabao Center at Cagayan State University (DA-PCC at CSU) attended the inception meeting of the Youth for Artificial Insemination (AI) Training implemented by the DA-Regional Field Office 02 (DA-RF02) in collaboration with the DA-Agricultural Training Institute Regional Training Center 02 (ATI-RTC 02) and DA-PCC, held on May 27, 2025 at Southern Cagayan Research Center-Annex, Maguirig Solana, Cagayan.

The initiative, Youth-based in Artificial Insemination and Pregnancy Diagnosis Training on Basic Large Ruminants (YOUTH for AI), is a collaborative project that aims to enhance the youth's role by introducing them to effective AI practices and pregnancy diagnosis, which will help address the related challenges in livestock industry across Region II.

The inception meeting of the Youth for AI was attended by staff from DA-RF02 and ATI-RTC 02 and was graced by municipal agriculturists, local government units (LGUs) officials and AI technicians, and youth (high school graduates) across Region II.

Dr. Bryan S. Sibayan, livestock focal person of Region II, welcomed all the event participants and emphasized the significance of the initiative, which will influence the livestock sector of Region II through the youth's participation.

In her message of support, DA-PCC at CSU Center Director Dr. Rovina R. Piñera pointed out the crucial role of youth in improving livestock management practices.

"This initiative is crucial for enhancing livestock genetics, benefiting our farmers and communities. We believe the future lies with our youth. This training aims to equip you with essential skills. You will gain expertise in modern techniques, allowing you to become leaders in the livestock industry," shared Dr. Piñera.

As one of the co-partners in the program's implementation, Dr. Piñera urged other stakeholders to strengthen the youth who will foster agricultural practices and ensure the stability of the nation's livestock sector.

"Let's support these young agriculture leaders and work together for a prosperous and sustainable future for Philippine agriculture," she added.

A key event highlight is the ceremonial distribution of LN2 Field tanks to each participating municipality. The field tank distributed is an essential tool that marks the commitment to AI implementation across Region II.

Additional important event highlights include the technical orientation for youth for AI training, which was shared by Dr. Maurieann M. Turingan, ATI-RTC 02 Senior Agriculturist. She then provided an overview of the training, duration, implementation, objectives, and expected outputs, inspiring the participants to take part in the success of the program.

Participants of the event also had an educational tour of the essential facilities in the venue, such as the Cagayan Valley Livestock Biotechnology Research Center and the Cattle and Goat Semen Laboratory. This tour provided valuable insights and practical knowledge that can be applied to improve livestock production.

Meaningful dialogues were shared in the program's implementation, and further adjustments to the plans were made for the duration of the training. Thus, ensuring the program's success lies in the firm commitment signified by many stakeholders present, especially the young ones committed to becoming certified AI technicians.
