DA-PCC, DSWD, kapit-bisig sa paglutas ng malnutrisyon Feb 2022 CaraBalitaan DA-PCC, DSWD By Jeremie Marinella Ledesma DA-PCC sa UPLB – Bilang tugon sa patuloy na pagtaas ng malnutrisyon sa bansa, inilunsad ng DA-PCC sa UPLB at DSWD Region 4A ang milk feeding program sa lalawigan ng Quezon, Cavite, at Laguna sa panimula ng taong 2022. DA-PCC, DSWD, kapit-bisig sa paglutas ng malnutrisyon Sa pangunguna ni Regional Director Marcelo Nicomedes J. Castillo ng DSWD Field Offi ce-IV A, at sa tulong ng DA-PCC sa UPLB, kasama ang mga kaakibat na kooperatibang The Rosario Livestock Agriculture Farm Cooperative, sinimulan ang milk feeding sa Mauban, Quezon noong Enero 24, at sa San Juan, Batangas noong Pebrero 2. Nasundan ito noong Enero 28 sa Kawit, Cavite kung saan nakasama ang General Trias Dairy Raisers Multipurpose Cooperative. Sa isinagawang National Nutrition Survey ng Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI), humigit-kumulang isang milyong batang Pilipino ang dumaranas ng matinding malnutrisyon. Ayon sa Science Research Specialist at Nutritionist ng DA-PCC sa UPLB na si Tricia Violanta, ang milk feeding ay makapipigil sa epekto ng malnutrisyon tulad ng paghina ng resistensya ng mga bata, at ang posibilidad ng pagpasa ng malnutrisyon sa mga susunod na henerasyon o tinatawag na “vicious cycle of malnutrition”. Sinang-ayunan naman ito ni DSWD Nutritionist Merjurie Miparanum. Ayon sa kanya, ang mga benepisyaryo ng milk feeding program ay inaasahang bubuti ang kalusugan samantalang sinasanay silang uminom ng gatas. Layon din aniya ng programa na makapagbigay ng mataas na kalidad at masustansyang gatas sa mga pamilyang may kakulangan sa masustansyang pagkain, lalo na sa nakararanas ng hirap dulot ng pandemya. Batay sa datos ng DSWD, ang kabuuang bilang ng mga batang nabigyan ng serbisyo sa ilalim ng milk feeding program noong 2021 ay nasa 860. Sa naging resulta, ang dating 75 na bilang ng mga severely wasted ay bumaba sa 15 samantalang and dating 166 sa kategoryang wasted ay naging 53. Ngayong taon, ang tinatayang bilang ng mga batang nabebenepisyuhan ay nasa 6,680. Noong nakaraang taon, ang bayan na nabiyayaan ng milk feeding program ng DSWD Region IV-A at DAPCC at UPLB ay ang Lucena, Quezon. Ayon kay Merjurie S. Miparanum, DSWD Region 4A focal person, bayan ng Lucena ang unang lugar kung saan ipinatutupad ang milk feeding, batay sa datos na galing sa National Nutrition Survey ng DOST-FNRI noong 2021. Ngayong taon, dahil sa karagdagang budget, pinalawak ng DSWD Region 4A ang sakop ng programa. Ang nasabing milk feeding program ay sinimulan noong 2019 sa ilalim ng RA 11037 o ang tinatawag na “Masustansyang Pagkain para sa Batang Pilipino Act.” Ang programang ito ay para malunasan ang hinaharap na malnutrisyon at food insecurity, at mapaunlad ang mga lokal na magkakalabaw at mga kooperatiba.
