Niño, South Cotabato By Charlene Joanino Sa loob ng higit 30 linggo ay sumailalim sa pagsasanay at aktuwal na paggamit ng natutunan mula sa Farmer Livestock School on Dairy Buffalo Production (FLS-DBP) ang 27 piling magsasaka ng Sto. Niño, South Cotabato. Sila ay nagsipagtapos noong Ika-8 ng Mayo sa munisipyo ng nasabing bayan. FLS-DBP graduation sa Sto. Niño, South Cotabato, ginanap “Ang kagandahan ng FLS-DBP sa ibang pagsasanay ay hindi nito pinupuwersa ang mga nagsasanay na gamitin ang isang partikular na teknolohiya o pamamaraan. Sa halip, nagbibigay ang FLS-DBP ng mga pamimiliang teknolohiya na maaaring gamitin ng kalahok base sa kanilang pangangailangan,” paglalahad ni Dr. Eric Palacpac, tagapamuno ng Philippine Carabao Center (PCC) Knowledge Management Division (KMD). Ilan sa mga itinuro sa pagsasanay ay ang wastong pangangalaga ng gatasang kalabaw, mga pakain sa alaga, at pagproseso ng gatas at karne ng kalabaw. “Ang PCC sa University of Southern Mindanao (PCC@USM) ay nakatuon sa pagsuong sa iba’t ibang paraan ng pagkakaroon ng mga kalabaw na maaaring maipahiram sa mga kuwalipikadong magsasaka,” ani Benjamin John Basilio, center director ng PCC@USM. Kanya ring ibinahagi na ang pamprobinsyal na pamahalaan ay nilalayon na magkaroon ng pondo para sa carabao buy-back scheme sa nasabing probinsya. Sa kabilang banda, binigyang-diin ni Dr. Palacpac ang siguradong merkado ng gatas lulan ng paglagda ng Pangulong Duterte ng RA 11307 o ng “Masustansiyang Pagkain para sa Batang Pilipino Act” kung saan kabilang ang probisyon ng gatas sa national school feeding program. Ang PCC@USM ay nakipagtulungan sa LGU-Sto. Niño sa pagsasagawa ng FLS-DBP. Sinuportahan din ang nasabing pagsasanay ng South Cotabato Provincial Agricultural Training Institute, Provincial Veterinarian Office, Region XII- Regional Agriculture and Fisheries Information Section, at ng Provincial Department of Trade and Industry. Ang FLS-DBP ay bahagi ng PCC Communication for Development (ComDev) Campaign sa Visayas at Mindanao o “Karbawan”. Isa ito sa mga inisyatiba na nadeterminang dapat isagawa sa ilan sa target sites ng Karbawan base sa Initial Participatory Communication Appraisal at Strategic Planning na ginawa ng PCC-KMD. Sa kasalukuyan, aabot na sa 116 na magsasaka ang nagsipagtapos buhat sa apat na FLS-DBP na inilunsad sa ilalim ng Karbawan. Sila ay mula sa Polanco, Zamboanga del Norte, Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay, Don Carlos, Bukidnon, at nitong huli sa Sto. Niño, South Cotabato.
