Milk processing training in Cagayan to boost Dairy Box operation

In its firm commitment to strengthening Dairy Box operation, the DA-Philippine Carabao Center at Cagayan State University (DA-PCC at CSU) conducted a milk processing training on May 29-30, 2025, at the DA-PCC at CSU's National Swamp Buffalo Gene Pool and Dairy Buffalo Farm, in Baung, Piat, Cagayan.

Facilitated by the Carabao-based Enterprise Development (CBED ) Unit of DA-PCC at CSU, seven members of the Pinoy Bagong Pag-asa Marketing Cooperative (PBPMC) who were among the beneficiaries of the Carabao-Based Business Improvement Network (CBIN) program, participated in the training. Three farm personnel who showed determination to be part of the milk processing team for the Center also took part in the training.

The hurdles PBMPC members encounter in areas of milk production, processing, and value addition continue even with access to the Dairy Box. For this reason, the training directed to the PBMPC members aimed to equip them with the technical knowledge and practical skills necessary to operationalize the Dairy Box effectively.

In her lecture on Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Dr. Aileen L. Bulusan, the Center's Milk Processing In-charge, encouraged the participants to make a serious effort in milk processing by following proper steps and upholding cleanliness in all processes.

"I assure you that as you apply the knowledge and skills that will transpire in this training, you will be able to maintain effective practices that will lead to sustainable milk production and market expansion of the dairy enterprise," Dr. Bulusan shared.

Through the guidance of Shirley T. Viloria, CBED coordinator, and Sarah Angelica S. Bautista, the Center's milk processor, the participants were able to perform well as they learned how to process pasteurized milk and flavored milk products such as chocolate, pandan, and melon.

The participants completed the training, which instilled the knowledge and skills necessary to help maintain dairy and milk production in their cooperative and neighboring communities. Each received a certificate for their active participation and commitment to becoming a model for community-driven enterprise development in the region.
