Pagsusulong ng urban agriculture Jul 2020 CaraBalitaan urban agriculture,DA-PCC sa MMSU By Marijoan Nefulda DA-PCC sa MMSU — Bilang tugon sa kakulangan ng sapat na pagkain dahil sa pandemya, ang Department of Agriculture-Philippine Carabao Center sa Mariano Marcos State University (DA-PCC sa MMSU) ay nagsagawa ng mga interbensyong pang-agrikultura. Sa pakikipagtulungan sa Agricultural Training Institute-Regional Training Center I, Department of Agriculture-Ilocos Norte Research and Experiment Center at Municipal Agriculture Office ng Lungsod ng Batac, ang proyektong “Urban Gardening and Edible Landscaping: Intensifying Vegetable Production Towards a Food Secure Society” ay inilunsad sa lungsod ng Batac noong Hulyo 6. Pagsusulong ng urban agriculture Layunin ng proyektong ito na matulungan ang nasa 1,000 kalahok na nakatira sa mga barangay na may maliliit o limitadong lugar. Nagkaroon ng pagsasanay na nakatuon sa pagtatanim ng gulay sa Batac City at Badoc noong Hulyo 14-16. Nagsagawa rin ng katulad na gawain sa lungsod ng Laoag City noong Hulyo 20-21. Sa naturang pagsasanay, ibinahagi ng mga piling kawani ng pamahalaan ang kanilang teknikal na kaalaman. Namahagi ng iba’t ibang mga gamit bilang panimula ng mga kalahok sa pagtatanim sa kani-kanilang lugar. Nakatanggap sila ng binhi ng gulay, punla, seedling trays at bags, trowels, vermicast, compost, carbonized rice hull, lubid na nylon, at mga babasahin na mapagkukunan ng kaalaman na makatutulong sa kanilang pagtatanim. Ang proyektong ito ay nakahanay sa programa ng DA-PCC na Gatas, Gulay, at Karne (GGK). Ito ay kabahagi rin ng programa ng DA na “Ahon Lahat, Pagkaing Sapat (ALPAS) Kontra COVID-19” kung saan kabilang ang mga gawain sa Urban Agriculture at Plant Plant Plant Program. Nakatuon ang GGK sa mga inisyatibang makatutulong sa produksyon ng pagkain at paglikha ng pangkabuhayan na mapagkukunan ng karagdagang kita para sa mga mabababang sektor ng lipunan na apektado ng pangkalusugang krisis na dulot ng COVID-19.
