Cecilia Irang Mapakikinabangan ng halos 120 magsasaka at village-based artificial insemination technicians na lumahok sa Kauna-unahang Talakayan sa KalabaJuan na ginanap noong Enero 12 sa Sta. Maria, Bulacan ang mga ibinahaging pinagbuting pamamaraan at gawain sa pag-aalaga ng kalabaw at mga kabuhayang nakasalig dito. Kalabajuan Ayon kay Dr. Daniel Aquino, center director ng PCC sa Central Luzon State University (CLSU), ang forum, na may temang “Maunlad, masaya at malusog na pamayanan sa paggagatasan at pagkakalaba-Juan”, ay naglalayong maghikayat ng mas marami pang magkakalabaw na sumali sa Carabao Development Program (CDP). Ito, aniya, ay sisimulan sa pamamagitan ng pagtukoy ng mga problema at isyung may kaugnayan sa pagkakalabaw na personal na nararanasan at kinakaharap ng mga magsasaka. “Sana makahanap tayo ng mga posibleng solusyon sa mga isyu at problemang ito at makapagbahagi ng mga maiinam na pamamaraan para makatulong sa mga negosyanteng maggagatas,” ani Dr. Arnel Del Barrio, executive director ng PCC. Ang forum ay nakatuon sa mga paksang may kinalaman sa pagpapalahi, lalo na ang pagpapataas sa 60% posibilidad na manganak ang kalabaw ng babaing bulo. Mas ipinaliwanag ito ni Dr. Del Barrio sa pagsasabing ang pinakamainam na oras sa pagsasagawa ng pagpapalahi ay mula ika-lima hanggang ika-pito ng umaga, sa madaling salita, gawin ito bago mag-agahan ang magsasaka. Hinikayat din niya ang mga kalahok na subukan ang ganitong pamamaraan at nakahanda namang magbigay ng tulong-teknikal ang PCC. “Sa pagsasagawa ng talakayang ito nagbigay inspirasyon sa’min ang Buffalo Raisers Philippines facebook group na nagsisilbing daluyan para makapagbahagian ng kaalaman at impormasyon ang mahigit 4,000 miyembro nito sa isa’t-isa,” ani Dr. Aquino. Ilan sa mga magsasakang lumahok ay mula sa Nueva Ecija, Bulacan, Bataan, Pampanga, Rizal, at Zambales. Ang CDP ay ang pangunahing programa ng PCC sa pagpapaunlad ng kabuhayan ng mga kliyente nito sa sektor ng pagkakalabawan sa pamamagitan ng tatlong sangay ng programa na kinabibilangan ng Genetic Improvement, Enterprise Development, at Research for Development.
