Ang Schools Division Office (SDO) ng Aurora ang kauna-unahang namahagi na may 4,568 benepisyaryo sa ilalim ng nationwide school-based feeding program (SBFP) na pinangungunahan ng Department of Education (DepEd). Minsanang inihatid ng Licaong Agricultural Cooperative (LAC), isa sa mga suppliers ng gatas na inaasistehan ng DA-Philippine Carabao Center (DA-PCC) sa Luzon, ang kabuuang 159,880 cans ng sterilized carabao’s milk sa mga nakalaang drop-off points sa Dingalan at San Luis, Aurora, na tinanggap at sinuri naman ng kani-kanilang SBFP focals. Sa tulong ng mga magulang ng mga benepisyaryo, nagsimulang magpamahagi ng sterilized canned milk ang SDO noong Hunyo 14 kasabay ng pagbibigay nila ng learning modules sa mga bata. Sa ilalim ng programa ay makatatanggap ng 180 ml sterilized canned milk ang bawa’t bata araw-araw sa loob ng 35 feeding days. Kamakailan lamang ay nangontrata ang DA-PCC ng isang third-party toll packer na magpapakete ng paunang apat na milyong cans ng sterilized milk sa pamamagitan ng retort facility gamit ang mahigit 40,000 litro ng gatas ng kalabaw na isusuplay ng mga farmer’s cooperatives sa Luzon. Ang mga produkto ay ipamamahagi sa Regions 1, 2, at 3 at ibang parte ng Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR). Sa retort process ay hinahayaan nitong ma-sterilized ang gatas ng kalabaw sa aluminum cans na hindi na kinakailangan pa ng mga preservatives. Sa pamamagitan ng pinagbuting packaging na ito, ang shelf life ng gatas ng kalabaw ay mas pinahaba mula sa dating pitong araw ngayon ay hanggang anim na buwan na, kaya naman mas maraming batang mag-aaral ang makaiinom ng masustansyang gatas ng kalabaw, lalo na ang mga nasa lugar na dating hindi naaabot ng programa, at yaong mga lugar na walang kuryente o pasilidad para sa pag-iimbak ng gatas. Maliban sa pinahabang shelf life, ang sterilized canned milk ay maaaring ibiyahe nang mas madali, iimbak sa hindi malamig na lugar o room temperature nang hindi nasisira o napapanis, at i-deliver nang maramihan na hindi na kailangang araw-araw pa ang paghahatid ng gatas. Nakatakda ring mag-deliver ang LAC ng 153,725 cans ng sterilized carabao’s milk sa Bulacan; 4,000 sa Mabalacat; at 24,219 sa Olongapo bago matapos ang Hunyo. Ang iba pang DepEd SDOs na magpapamahagi ng sterilized canned carabao’s milk sa kani-kanilang mga benepisyaryo ay ang Zambales, Tarlac Province, Pampanga, Ilocos Sur, Abra, Pangasinan, San Fernando City, Kalinga, Tabuk City, Bataan, at Nueva Vizcaya.
