Dating sundalo nagtapos na valedictorian sa FLS-DBP, Albay Dec 2021 CaraBalitaan FLS-DBP, ALbay, Jay Pascua By Aldrin Geronimo DA-PCC sa UPLB- Isang dating sundalo ang nagtapos bilang valedictorian mula sa 65 na nagtapos ng Farmer Livestock School on Dairy Buffalo Production (FLS-DBP) sa probinsya ng Camalig, Albay noong Nobyembre 4. Ilang kalahok sa FLS-DBP ang nagbahagi ng kanilang mga mensahe sa ginanap na Graduation Ceremony noong Nobyembre 4, 2021 sa Albay Farmers Bounty Village Negosyo Auditorium, sa Cabangan, Camalig. Samantala, pinarangalan bilang Valedictorian ang dating Colonel na si Jay Pascua (gitna) , 24 taong gulang na si Domingo Astillero Jr., at Alvin Losande mula sa Daraga. Si Jay Pascua, 49, ay nakipagsapalaran sa paggagatas ng kalabaw matapos magretiro sa Hukbong Katihan ng Pilipinas na may ranggong colonel. Sa kasalukuyan, umabot na sa 32 ang bilang ng kanyang ginagatasang kalabaw. Bukod kay Pascua, nagtapos din bilang valedictorian sina Domingo Astillero Jr. mula sa bayan ng Guinobatan at Alvin Losande mula sa Daraga, Albay. Si Astillero Jr., 24 taong gulang, ay isang “millennial farmer” at kamakailan lang ay pumasok sa industriya ng pagkakalabawan, habang si Losande ay dating nag-aalaga lang ng kalabaw bilang katuwang sa bukid nguni't ngayon ay naggagatas na rin. Dahil sa pandemya, inabot ng halos 20 buwan ang FLS-DBP sa Albay na dapat sana ay apat na buwan lamang. Gayunpaman, naging posible ito sa pagtutulungan ng Pamahalaang Panlalawigan ng Albay – Albay Veterinary Office, Gubat St. Anthony Cooperative (GSAC), DA- Philippine Carabao Center sa University of the Philippines Los Baños (DA-PCC sa UPLB), at mga pamahalaang lokal ng Camalig, Daraga, Guinobatan, Ligao at Legazpi. Pinangunahan ito nina Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Pancho Mella, Dr. Marlon Tapel, at Catherine Mancera na nagsilbing mga facilitator. Dumalo sa pagtatapos sina Vice Governor Edcel Greco B. Lagman na nagbigay ng mensahe sa mga magsasaka tungkol sa kahalagahan at suporta ng lalawigan ng Albay sa mga maggagatas ng kalabaw. Dumalo rin sina Albay at Sorsogon Agriculture Center Chief Florentino Ubalde, at GSAC Chairperson Engr. Rene Hermo, OIC City Veterinarian ng Ligao City Dr. Azel Ranada, Municipal Agricultural Officer ng Daraga Meljie Matociños, MAO ng Canalig Dante Alejandro at Gil Camases na kahalili ng MAO ng Guinobatan.
