'Back-to-back' CDP activities isinagawa sa Leyte Dec 2021 CaraBalitaan CDP, Leyte, DA-PCC sa VSU By Emy Goritte Gorra DA-PCC sa VSU—Dalawang aktibidad para sa pagpapalaganap at patuloy na pagpapaunlad ng Carabao Development Program (CDP) ang isinagawa ng DA-Philippine Carabao Center sa Visayas State Universi-ty (DA-PCC sa VSU) para sa mga kabataan at magsasaka ng Baybay City at Maasin City sa Southern Ley-te. Carabao Development Program sa Leyte. Isinagawa ang magkahiwalay na aktibidad noong Nobyembre 19 sa piling mga barangay ng Baybay City habang mahigpit na inobserbahan ang mga wastong health and safety protocols. Ang mga kalahok sa ‘one-day observation and actual training’ ay labing pitong miyembro ng Malapoc Sur Twine Weavers Association (MaSTWA) na mga benepisyaryo ng Coconut-Carabao Development Project (CCDP) ng Southern Leyte. Layunin ng pagsasanay na makapagbahagi ng mga kaalaman at mahahalagang impormasyon tungkol sa CCDP sa mga magiging carapreneurs. Isa rin itong hakbang ng DA-PCC upang mabigyan ang mga kalahok ng inisyal na ideya at preparasyon sa carabao dairy industry. Sa kabilang dako, ang Carabao-based Enterprise Development Program (CBED) team ng DA-PCC sa VSU, na pinangunahan nina CBED coordinator Johnson Royo Jr. at Science Research Specialist Letuz Sudaria, ay nagpagawa ng oryentasyon sa mga young carapreneurs sa Baybay. Sampung kabataan ang dumalo sa Knowledge Sharing on Best Practices in Milk Collection and Handling. Pawang anak sila ng mga buffalo owners ng Brgy. Gabas at Biasong. Ang nasabing oryentasyon para sa mga kabataan ay isang istratehiya ng DA-PCC sa VSU para mahikayat ang mga kabataan sa pagpapahalaga at pag-aalaga ng gatasang kalabaw. Ilang carapreneurs ng Baybay City ang nagsilbing tagapagsalita na sina Dindo Pernites, Noel Prado, Jose Fernando Diaz, Gregorio Cueco at Jeffrey Cueco. Ibinahagi nila ang kani-kanilang kaalaman sa pagkakalabaw at kung paano binago ng negosyo sa gatasang kalabaw ang kanilang buhay. Dinaluhan ang gawain nina DA-PCC sa VSU Center Director Francisco Gabunada Jr., Maasin City Agriculturist Virginia Barrientos, CCDP Project Development Officer Rachelle Valdez, at mga agricultural technicians ng Maasin City na sina Melvin Ablon at Renato Costillas.
