May 2023 CaraBalitaan carabalitaan By Mary Antonette Andarza DA-PCC WVSU-Idinaos ng Philippine Carabao Center sa WVSU (PCC at WVSU) ang kauna-unahang Cara Cooking Show at Cara-ugnayan with the Farmers sa Calinog Plaza sa Calinog, Iloilo noong ika-3 ng Marso. Ito ay kaugnay sa partisipasyon ng center sa pagdiriwang ng ika-5 Semana Kang Mangunguma na may temang,“Mangunguma naghugpong sa pagbangon, panguma pasanyugon, palibot tatapon at ekonomiya pasanyugon.” 'Ang karbaw, labaw!' Binigyang-diin dito ang pagkakaisa ng mga magsasaka sa pagharap at pagbangon tungo sa maunlad na ekonomiya. Ang tema ng slogan ng PCC sa WVSU, "Ang may karbaw, labaw!" ay nagpapakita ng konsepto na ang carapreneurship ay isang umuusbong na kabuhayan na siyang may potensyal na mapabuti ang buhay ng mga magsasaka. Ang okasyon ay dinaluhan ni Hon. Renato Magpantay, miyembro ng Sangguniang Bayan ng munisipyo ng Calinog, Gelmina P. Cartel, Hepe ng Calinog Municipal Agriculture Office, at Dir. Arn D. Granada, Center Director ng PCC sa WVSU. Sina Maria Corazon Buala, Public Relations Officer II ng DA-Western Visayas, Abdiel Dela Cruz, Operation Manager, The Glend Hotel, at Michael Jan Debuque, Tourism Operations Assistant ng Calinog Tourism Office ay dumalo bilang hurado ng Cara Cooking Show. Humigit-kumulang 300 katao ang dumalo sa kaganapan, na karamihan ay mga magsasaka mula sa iba't ibang samahan ng mga magsasaka sa Calinog. Pinangunahan ni Janice H. Cuaresma, Coordinator ng DAPCC sa WVSU CBED, ang Caraugnayan with Farmers. Tinalakay rito ang tagumpay ng Calinog Farmers Agriculture Cooperative (CAF Agri Coop) sa cara-dairy farming. Sa kabilang banda, sina Ryan Carmen , Chairman ng CAF Agri Coop, Lilibeth Dumdumaya, Manager ng CAF Agri Coop, at Wilma Capillo, miyembro ng Board of Directors ng CAF Agri Coop, ay tinalakay ang mga pakikibaka at tagumpay ng kooperatiba sa mga nakaraang taon, gayundin ang kahalagahan at epekto ng kababaihan sa industriya ng pagawaan ng gatas. Ang Karabun (buffalo's milkflavored bun) ay ipinakilala rin sa naturang programa, kasama ang mga benepisyo at potensyal nito bilang isang produktong pagkain. Binigyang-diin na sa mga isla ng Panay at Guimaras, tanging ang CAF Agri Coop lamang ang gumagawa ng Karabun. Sa pangunahing kaganapan na Cara Cooking Show ay hinamon ang mga kalahok na magluto gamit ang isang litro ng gatas ng kalabaw at PHP500 na halaga ng mga sangkap. Ang mga pagkaing inihanda ay binigyang puntos batay sa halagang ginastos, iba’t ibang kombinasyon ng mga putahe, at sa presyong tingin ng mga hurado ay angkop sa putahe. Tinanghal na kampeon si Ellen Escorial ng Sitio Cristobal Farmers Association, na nag-uwi ng PHP5,000 para sa kanyang winning dish combination na kalabasa soup, bikol express, at ube halaya, na pawang gawa sa gatas ng kalabaw. Sina Kate Reylen Escorial at Jonna Kim Catalua, kapwa mula sa 4H Club, ay nakakuha ng una at pangalawang pwesto sa kanilang kumbinasyon ng mga pagkain na beef roll at palitaw na may gatas ng kalabaw, at ginataang balut de leche, pritong balut, at coffee jelly. Layunin ng paligsahan na maitaguyod ang gatas ng kalabaw bilang isang sangkap na maaaring gamitin sa iba’t ibang pagkain tulad na lamang sa appetizer at panghimagas.
