Mindanao co-op inaugurates milk collection center, Dairy Box

The Ipil Community Multi-Purpose Cooperative (ICMC), a cooperative assisted by the DA-Philippine Carabao Center at Mindanao Livestock Production Center (DA-PCC at MLPC), inaugurated its new milk collection center and Dairy Box on March 13, 2025 in Ipil, Zamboanga, Sibugay.

These facilities aim to accelerate and sustain the development of the local dairy industry by enhancing the production of carabao-based products, as well as fostering the growth of related businesses and livelihood opportunities for all value-chain key players.

The construction is part of the Coconut-Carabao Development Project (CCDP), funded by the office of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Food, and Agrarian Reform, chaired by Senator Cynthia Villar. This initiative aims to provide farmers with additional income and support local dairy farmers and cooperatives.

The building of the facilities was made possible through the funding support of the DA-PCC at MLPC and the Barangay Local Government Unit (BLGU).

During the event, Phil O. Advento, a member of the ICMC Board of Directors, expressed his gratitude for the hard work and dedication of the cooperative's members and emphasized the importance of continued collaboration for future success.

Ipil Mayor Anamel C. Olegario remarked, “Before my term ends, I am very happy to have accomplished the establishment of this project, including the inauguration of the milk collection center and the launching of the Dairy Box. We must now focus on expanding and properly maintaining the facilities, equipment, and animals provided to us.”

Dr. Cecelio G. Velez, center chief of DA-PCC at MLPC, congratulated the cooperative on its progress in increasing its assets through the dairy enterprise. He acknowledged the challenges while also highlighting the numerous opportunities that lie ahead.

The Dairy Box initiative in Ipil is now the 52nd outlet operating nationwide and the fourth among 17 sites under the CCDP, signaling a significant step forward in promoting the dairy industry in the region.

This successful collaboration involved the DA-PCC at MLPC, ICMC, the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA), and the Local Government Unit of Ipil (LGU-Ipil).

Among the attendees were Estella P. Valiente of DA-PCC National Headquarters and Gene Pool; Dores C. Gabo, Science Research Specialist at the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Zamboanga Sibugay; Edgar G. Milanos, Senior Trade-Industry Development Specialist from the Department of Trade and Industry IX (DTI); Edman H.
