DA-PCC’s Scientist II gets NRCP Achievement Award

The #TatakPCC banner is again raised to the national stage as Dr. Eufrocina “Bing” Atabay, Scientist II of DA-Philippine Carabao Center (DA-PCC), is recognized as Achievement Awardee by the National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP), presented during the NRCP Annual Scientific Conference and 92nd General Membership Assembly on March 13, 2025 at the Philippine International Convention Center.

The Achievement Award is given annually by NRCP in recognition of the outstanding contribution in the fields of natural sciences, health sciences, engineering, industry, social sciences, humanities or other human endeavors.

The NRCP recognizes the contribution of Dr. Atabay as researcher and scientist and her services to the scientific community, mentorship, management, and professional experience.

Dr. Atabay’s work focused on enhancing the fertility and reproductive performance of livestock in general through embryo in vitro techniques, multiple ovulation and embryo transfer (MOET), cryopreservation of embryos and oocytes, and fixed-time embryo transfer.

Likewise, she spearheaded the team on the use of sex-sorted semen for FTAI, which resulted in the birth of the first female calf from sexed semen, named “Liwanag”. She has also been involved in the development of the Intensified Reproductive Management Program dubbed the Triple E strategy for water buffaloes and other livestock, and has also established an IP-Technology Commercialization office and a system that facilitates the effective translation of research into products and services for the benefit of clients, the general public, and the livestock industry.

“My advocacy is simple. It is for the advancement of reproductive biotechnology for the development of livestock industry,” said Dr. Atabay.

The NRCP Achievement Awardee will receive a plaque of recognition, a medallion and a cash gift.
