Cagayan inaugurates livestock facilities

The DA-Philippine Carabao Center at Cagayan State University (DA-PCC at CSU) attended the inauguration of the calf pen, cow shed, and silage dome at Cagayan Provincial Stock Farm (PSF), Lannig, Solana, Cagayan on May 7, 2025.

The newly inaugurated facilities were organized by the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVET) of Cagayan and funded by the provincial government through the 2022 Annual Investment Plan (AIP).

Dr. Noli V. Buen, the provincial veterinarian of Cagayan, expressed gratitude to Governor Manuel N. Mamba for initiating and developing the project in partnership with DA-PCC at CSU, which provided the buffaloes.

Engr. Kingston James S. Dela Cruz, provincial engineer, shared the technical aspects of the project, particularly on the design, budgeting, duration of completion, and purpose.

"There are also plans this year to install a water system at the stock farm for better management of the animals and the facilities," said Engr. Dela Cruz.

DA-PCC at CSU Center Director Dr. Rovina R. Piñera underscored the contributions of DA-PCC to the carabao industry in Cagayan through its Carabao Herd Build-up (CHBU) and Carabao-Based Business Improvement Network (CBIN) initiatives.

"Today, we are inaugurating six houses for six female purebred Italian buffaloes and one bull, which have been provided to the PVET. This will enhance the PVET's capacity to improve local breeding programs and support our carabao farmers. It will increase productivity, provide better livelihoods for our farmers, and create a stronger agricultural sector for our community,” shared Dr. Piñera.

Cagayan Governor Manuel N. Mamba highlighted the significant efforts made to develop the project through his initiative, which was put to good use.

"It is not just a program that will help continue the livelihood of our people, but a symbol of what we could do and transform what was useless before,” said Governor Mamba.

Also, he introduced the facilities at the stock farm, which are intended for the production of local milk products in Cagayan.

The inauguration program concluded with the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the calf pen, cow shed, and silage dome.
