CAPSU, DA-PCC at WVSU train farmers on milk soap making

To enhance the farmers' income opportunities, promote sustainable dairy farming, and encourage product diversification by introducing the participants to value-added milk products, the DA-Philippine Carabao Center at West Visayas State University (DA-PCC at WVSU), in partnership with Capiz State University (CAPSU), conducted a training on milk soap making for the Binuntucan Farmers Association on May 5, 2025, at the Farmers Development and Training Center, Capiz State University—Pontevedra Campus.

Dr. Emely J. Escala, director of CAPSU’s Livestock Research and Development Center, cited the importance of the training as an opportunity to broaden the participants’ knowledge.

"As the project lead for a community enrichment initiative, I see milk soap production as a valuable opportunity for buffalo farmers to diversify their income and add value to their milk. This skill empowers them through small-scale enterprise while promoting sustainable practices and opening markets for natural, locally made products,” Dr. Escala said.

Janice H. Cuaresma, head of the Carabao-Based Enterprise Development Section, highlighted the partnership of the LGU, CAPSU, and DA-PCC in empowering the newly established association.

“Our advocacy in the Municipality of Pontevedra centers on capacitating our farmers and their associations involved in carabao raising and related enterprises. We facilitate their development and strengthen their capacity to prosper in these ventures through relevant trainings. Our partnership with LGU Pontevedra and Capiz State University is instrumental in empowering the Binuntucan Farmers Association with the necessary skills and resources for success. Today, this collaboration has resulted in training them to produce carabao’s milk-infused soap as a promising product for the market,” said Cuaresma.

Bombe Castaños, Administrative Assistant III of DA-PCC at WVSU, served as the resource person for the said training.
