DA Usec for Livestock, DA-PCC push for carabao industry growth, stronger private sector engagement

The Department of Agriculture-Philippine Carabao Center (DA-PCC) had a meeting with DA Undersecretary for Livestock Constante J. Palabrica to address ways of enhancing the carabao industry, emphasizing the promotion of DA-PCC-developed agribusiness portfolios to encourage private sector investments.

Representing the DA-PCC, Zadieshar G. Sanchez, chief of the Planning and Information Management Division, presented a range of carabao-based enterprises designed to attract investors. These included dairy buffalo farming, corn silage and vermicast production, dairy processing operations, the Dairy Box, and Kardeli Meat. The initiatives are part of DA-PCC’s broader efforts to promote sustainable, scalable agribusiness models within the livestock sector.

Undersecretary Palabrica recognized the potential of the initiatives but stressed that the industry's data and outlook must be revised to project future trends.

“Private investors rely on current and forward-looking data to make sound business decisions. DA-PCC should align its projections and offerings with the latest trends and demands,” he noted.

Dr. Claro N. Mingala, Director of the National Livestock Program (NLP), also expressed strong support for the initiative by committing to provide a program that will allocate funding to enhance farmers' capacity to invest in these business portfolios, particularly the 5-cow start-up dairy buffalo farm business.

The meeting emphasized the importance of enhancing public-private linkages for innovation, farmer livelihood improvement, and the long-term sustainability of the carabao sector.

Other DA-PCC employees present during the meeting were Giselle M. Sacupaso, Angela Joy A. Avellanoza, and Christine Jill C. Soto.
