DA-PCC pilots children-focused campaign “The Adventures of KalaGirl and KalaBoy” in Pangasinan Jun 2025 None Adventures By Ronaline Canute Carrying the hope of building a new generation of advocates for carapreneurship, the DA-Philippine Carabao Center (DA-PCC) marked a new chapter in its advocacy with the kick-off of a children-focused campaign titled “The Adventures of KalaGirl and KalaBoy” at Binalay Elementary School (BES) in Malasiqui, Pangasinan on June 17, 2025. Carrying the hope of building a new generation of advocates for carapreneurship, the DA-Philippine Carabao Center (DA-PCC) marked a new chapter in its advocacy with the kick-off of a children-focused campaign titled “The Adventures of KalaGirl and KalaBoy” at Binalay Elementary School (BES) in Malasiqui, Pangasinan on June 17, 2025. The campaign, which was launched during the agency’s 32nd anniversary celebration in March, brings the story of KalaGirl and KalaBoy, the ambassadors of the Carabao Development Program (CDP), to communities not previously reached by DA-PCC. The characters serve as role models for children promoting the importance of maintaining a healthy body and mind, cultivating a love for reading, and introducing carabao-based farming and rural development. The campaign incorporates three strategies: #KalaBasa, #KaLaro, and #KaLakasan. The #KalaBasa strategy is the core of the activity, where children listen to the story of KalaGirl and KalaBoy narrated by a storyteller. The #KaLaro strategy involves interactive games that allow children to express the values they learned from the story through activities such as puzzles, poster making, and poetry writing. The #KaLakasan strategy conveys the message of “strength,” highlighting the nutrition gained from drinking carabao’s milk. This strategy also includes a feeding program, where 320 pupils of BES were provided with milk and Karabun. “This campaign’s strategy aligns with this year’s Brigada theme, ‘Brigada Eskwela: Sama-sama Para Sa Bayang Bumabasa’. BES is truly fortunate to have been chosen by the DA-PCC for this activity among the many schools here in Pangasinan,” said Aldrin C. Ocsan, Senior Program Specialist of the Schools Division Office (SDO) in Pangasinan. The pilot event of the program was made possible by a collaborative effort involving the Knowledge Management Division of the DA-PCC at Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University, the Local Government Unit of Malasiqui, the Schools Division Office of Pangasinan I, and the VIBA Farmers' Cluster Agriculture Cooperative. The campaign has strengthened the relationship between DA-PCC and the local government unit of Malasiqui, signaling a new beginning for the Carabao Development Program (CDP) in the area. In this context, the VIBA Farmers’ Cluster Agriculture Cooperative in Malasiqui has embarked on a carapreneurship venture as recipients of the Carabao-Herd Buildup Project of the agency and will undergo a Social Preparation Training (SPT) to be conducted by the DA-PCC at DMMMSU. The Read-Along Campaign is expected to be conducted in selected regional centers of the agency across the country by the second semester of 2025.
